Series #21 @ Dayton

The Lugnuts won another series making it two in a row. We played the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds affiliate) going 4-2 again, bringing our season record to 56-63. We lost the first two games and then rattled off four straight to finish the week. As a staff, we gave up only eighteen runs over the six game series, six of which were unearned.

We added a couple pitchers - coming off of rehab in Arizona - to our staff this past week to bring our total number of active pitchers on the roster to seventeen, seven starters and ten bullpen arms. At one point during the season, we had thirteen pitchers and we made ends meet so now with a surplus of pitchers, almost every pitcher (both starters and relievers) are pitching once per week. Earlier in the year, it was rare if I didn’t throw twice in a series and last year there were a few weeks when I threw three times but the last two series, I’ve pitched once. This week, I threw two scoreless innings on Friday, picking up the win.

I entered the game in the 7th inning and the score tied at 2. My first inning went fly out, line out, pop up - the line out was to right field and it was a great diving play made by Colby Thomas. I went back out for the 8th with the game still tied. The first batter hit a deep flyball to left but our left fielder - Danny Bautista - tracked it down right before hitting the wall. I finished up my second inning with back to back strikeouts. My outing could have looked a lot different if it weren't for my defense behind me. Our pitching and defense came up huge this week leading to three one run wins and one shutout.

We took the lead in the top of the 9th - after my two scoreless innings - on a double and then our closer closed it out in the bottom of the 9th. The last two weeks, I have gotten a win brining my season record to 6-2.

The Lugnuts are in Lansing for their final home series against the West Michigan WhiteCaps (Detroit Tigers affiliate). Thanks for reading!
